We began our new year round schooling and January to December school calendar after returning from a visit to my Mom’s.
The girl’s are continuing CTC. It is going really well. This week’s history project was to make a breastplate with clay plates that had the 12 tribes written in Hebrew.
CTC
History/Social Studies
The Story of the Ancient World-The girls read about how Aaron was to wear an ephod as a priest. They had to research ephod and breastplate. Everything is integrated for me with CTC. They have beautiful notebooking pages that have the children doing copywork, timeline, research, and written narrations weekly.
The children also work on a history project weekly. This week they were to make a breastplate such as the priest Aaron wore.
Tadpole with her breastplate.
Big Sis’ breastplate. I thought I got a picture of her beside it…but apparently not.
They also worked on the watercolor paintings but didn’t finish because we had a vet appointment for the dog on Friday.
Science
This week they studied rodents in Land Animals of the Sixth Day
They are keeping an animal tracks book. This week they labelled beaver tracks, rabbit tracks, and armadillo tracks.
They mapped the locations of the animals using our globe.
Language Arts
The girls are using LLATL Tan this year and really enjoying it. We also use the dictation passages in CTC.
Storytime/DITHOR
The girls are reading Summer of the Monkeys right now. It is a very interesting story. They are in different levels of the DITHOR workbook. Tadpole is working through 2/3 and Big Sis is working through 4/5.
Poetry
"Gathering Leaves”
Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons…
-Robert Frost
Each week they work on a watercolor representing the painting. This week’s watercolor is a work in progress because of appointments.
BLHFHG
We learned about snakes and their scales this week. Bubba made his own snake with scales by using hole punched construction paper.
Working on his snake
His finished snake!
Bubba is ready to move up in HOD now as well. He has been working on Beyond this year. I chose to have him go through Beyond again for a bit without being combined with his sister’s to make sure he was ready for Bigger. He will be starting Bigger this week and going through it 4 days a week.
4H
Big Sis is working on the Wags and Wiggles book for her portfolio.
Bathing our dog for her vet appointment.
Tadpole is working on Six Easy Bites for her portfolio
Helping cook supper.
There was an internet safety poster contest and Big Sis won 1st place for the middle school division out of all the 4H middle schools in our parish. Note-we attend a public school 4H club that meets at the library after school hours.
There was a photography contest this month as well. Tadpole entered these pictures to show farm life and livestock. Cross fingers that she does well.

Found your blog on the wtm board. We just started using Bigger - enjoying a glimpse into your HOD week!
