Bubba

History/Social Studies

We are picking up where we left off last year with HOD’s Beyond.  Here Bubba is learning about the continents.

Science

Again, we are picking up with HOD’s Science from CLP.  I haven’t decided whether we will add more science.

Bubba does go to once a week co-op and takes a science class there.

Math

Bubba has done Singapore Math from the start.  He is not picking up his math facts though.  So we are now doing R&S Math and supplementing with Singapore Math and Jump Math.

He is really getting the facts by copying them.

This is our manipulative chart where we get the concepts of the math facts.

I am still trying to decide whether to start R&S 2 and Cheerful Cursive this year.  They are recommended in the next guide which Bubba will get to 2nd semester.  There is once a week grammar lessons in his current guide.  I really think he may be ready for a bit more though.

Tadpole

We had started out with HOD’s Preparing this year.  We did not get very far in when I realized we needed the next guide up for Tadpole.  Last year, I had combined them all in Beyond and beefed it up for my older girls.  This year, everyone is in their own guide.

Since we  switched guides after a week.  I will post some pictures of  Tadpole working without a break down of what she was learning.

Spiritheart

Spiritheart is doing Calvert 6th grade with an advisory teacher this year. 

4H

History/Social Studies

She is studying Ancient History using Houghton Mifflin’s A Message of Ancient Days

Science

Here science is Prentice Hall’s Science Explorer series.  She is starting with Chemical Building Blocks.

Math

She is using Calvert Math 6 which is primarily Pre-Algebra concepts.  We are going through the diagnostic skills first before jumping into the book.

Language Arts

She is using Holt’s Elements of Language-Introductory Course through Calvert.

She is also refining her typing skills with Mavis Beacon.

It has taken a bit of time to get used to the textbook approach again.  She is pretty independent as the guide is written directly to her with only a little bit that she needs “the learning guide-aka myself”.

The checkpoints were a point of contention at first. She has learned to take her time and double check her answers before submitting the checkpoints.

All of the kids are doing 4H this year and all placed at the Parish Fair!!!

Bubba placed 5th in Watercolors

Tadpole placed 2nd in Watercolors and received a participant ribbon for her photo.

Spiritheart placed 4th in Watercolors and 3rd in monochrome photo.
